Fifth grade student Vincent Hawkins, 11, looked for the perfect gift, but this time it was for his sister.
Corpus Christi Officer Eric Jason Escobedo, who participated in the Shop with a Cop program, admired Vincent.
"Despite his circumstances, he was very humble. Vincent kept mentioning how his mother was putting herself through nursing school and working to support him and his sister," Escobedo said. "All he wanted was to get something for his mom (and sister) to show his appreciation instead of himself."
More than 100 students from Tuloso-Midway, Robstown and Calallen school districts were given $125 to spend on clothing, supplies and toys.
Escobedo was one of the many officers touched by his partnered student, Vincent, from Calallen's Magee Elementary School.
Walmart in Calallen hosted area law enforcements annual Shop With a Cop event on Thursday Dec. 3.
There were around 50 local police officers from agencies with Corpus Christi Police Department, Kingsville's Task Force, Department of Public Safety, Border Patrol, Sheriff's department, Robstown Police and others.
