More than 500 stuffed animals were donated to the Alice Police Department on Tuesday afternoon.
The stuff animals are carried in the police units and distributed to children by officers during calls where children are involved.
“It don't matter if it's a big bear or a small one (the children) still get the same reaction,” said Lt. Hector Zertuche Jr. “They get a grin from ear-to-ear regardless of size. And sometimes we give the children more than one, it's something they can hold on to.”
Local agencies such as the Alice Board of Realtors, Guaranty Title & Abstract, and Stewart Title Company collected stuffed animals of all kinds.
“Unfortunately there's always a need,” said Chase McRoberts, area manger for First American Home Buyers Protection Corporation. “It helps calm (the children's) nerves.”
Stewart Title Company also donated approximately $220, according to Gay Lynn Storm with Stewart Title Company.
