I love learning about nature and listening to children talk about nature. The interest young children show about animals and plants and weather can astound you.
We have photographs in the library right now from the "Wildlife in Focus IV" book that comes out this fall. There are some outstanding photographs that you will want to come and share with your children. There are photos when you first enter the library and then there are photos in the children's area by the window. We will have them until the first Monday in May, so come soon to check them out.
I love watching the children spot the animals that they know and like and I love watching them get excited and wanting to share what they are seeing. These are all animals that can be found in the South Texas area and you would be very surprised to see the large variety.
We are going to be having lots of nature themed programs this summer so make sure and get a calendar of activities. I should have the calendar out by the middle of May.
I still have to get some details confirmed, but we are going to have lots of fun during the "Jubilee 1958-2008" summer reading program. It will start the first week of June. I'll talk more about specifics when it gets closer to the summer program.
Do you have a third, fourth or fifth-grader who's interested in birds? If you do, contact me about a special class we are going to have this summer.
In May, we are going to have some fun programs too. Our Tuesday night P.J. storytime is at 7 p.m. Family storytime is Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. We will be have May Day crafts May 1 at 4:30 p.m. National Children's book week is celebrated from May 11-17.
We will have a Tea Party with the Queen on Saturday, May 10 at 2:30 and a "Make a Book" craft on Thursday May 15 at 4:30 p.m. Come join our fun.
Don't forget to check out the "Wildlife in Focus" photos before May 5.
