Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I enjoyed two days off in a row.

Went to see a couple of movies this week. If you haven't seen Mr. Magoriums' Wonder Emporium, I would highly recommend it. It is not a young child's movie, but your preteen should enjoy it. It's sadder than I thought it would be.

Have you noticed how many of the movies being released lately are based on children's books? Of course, all the Harry Potters, but also "Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," "Golden Compass," "Spiderwick," and "Bridge to Terabithia" to name a few movies. I'm glad to see that the movie industry has discovered the gold mine of children's books.

In the past there have been several movies that were true to the book, but some are not. One of the best ones for keeping with the book is "Because of Winn Dixie." They almost had the movie down word for word with the book.

Did you know that the movie "Shrek" was based on a children's picture book by William Steig? About the only thing they have in common are the name and the fact that Shrek is an ogre.

For a fun family activity, try reading a book and then watching the movie to see the differences. See who can spot the most changes in the movie. I know one that is very funny to me is in the "Princess Diaries." Mia's father is not dead. In the movies he is. Since the movies have been released, Meg Cabot has made a point of having Mia tell everyone "contrary to the movies my father is not dead." I sometimes wonder if the makers of the movie have read any of her books lately to see her panning the movies.

If you haven't had a chance to come by our new library, try to make a stop. You would not believe the changes in the building.

I can't believe it's almost December. Christmas is just around the corner. Remember buying books for your child can be a fun present. There are just so many new books out to choose.
