The Northwest Public Library will have its grand opening celebration at 11 a.m. Oct 6 after being closed for 14 months for remodeling.

Grand opening festivities will include games and activities for children. The opening date for the library has been postponed several times due to construction delays.

"I'm glad we're actually doing it after all the postponements," said managing librarian Lynda Whitton.

Library staff on Monday began moving books and other materials from the library's temporary location at Annaville Elementary School.

The new $2 million facility is about 12,000 square feet, with a lot more lighting and space from its former size of 7,500 square feet.

"It is really a community asset," Whitton said. "We don't have anything else that compares to it. The people that come in, they're just wowed by how beautiful it is and how different it is from a typical library."
