Tuloso-Midway Independent School District trustees voted Monday to adopt a resolution supporting a nomination from Port Aransas for the Place 6 Nueces County Appraisal District seat.
At Monday's school board meeting, trustees voted 5-0 to support the nomination of Lorraine Stern, a current board member with the Port Aransas Independent School District, for the seat, which was left vacant after current Place 6 member Anna Flores announced she would be resigning her seat due to personal reasons.
TMISD trustees voiced concern over Stern's position on the school board, but superintendent Cornelio Gonzalez said the PAISD school board president assured him there was nothing to be concerned about.
"They said it is not a conflict of interest," Gonzalez said. "How they determined that, I don't know."
Six public entities - the city of Port Aransas and the Flour Bluff, West Oso, Tuloso-Midway, Calallen and Port Aransas school districts - will split a total of 10,000 votes to elect the replacement for Flores's seat, which must be completed by Oct. 12.
How many votes each entity receives is contingent on the property wealth of their respective areas, Gonzalez said.
