This Monday, the Agua Dulce ISD Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting at the Agua Dulce Elementary School. Items on the agenda were the search for a new superintendent and the upcoming bond election that will take place with school board elections on May 7.

Donna Hilliard, the interim superintendent, stated that the qualifications and application are up on the school district website. The announcement is up on the home page as soon as one lands on it. “We will be taking applications till February 29 and going over them during our March 7 school board meeting. The top four or five will be called in for interviews towards the end of March and we hope to have a new superintendent selected by the end of March,” said Hilliard. “We hope to have them start by this July 1.”

The other major item on the agenda was the bond that will be voted on during the May 7 school board member election. The purpose of the bond is for improvements to the current facilities and starting with a new cafeteria for both schools. “The new cafeteria would be able to accommodate up to 250 people and will include a stage and three new classrooms. It will also have covered walkways going to both the elementary and high schools.

School officials also hope to build a new weight room for the athletics students to give them a place to train for competition. Aside from the new buildings, there are plans to upgrade current facilities currently in use. The proposed upgrades would include new equipment for the agriculture building, the band hall and school administration. The school board would resurface the track at the stadium and if money allows, resurface the tennis court. The total amount of the bond is expected to be five million dollars.

School board plans on raising awareness and getting community support for the bond. “I think the community is really supportive of it, we're going to have meetings with the public leading up to the election,” said Hilliard.
