Corpus Christi – For Catholics, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 is the beginning of the Lenten season. This day is the holy day of Ash Wednesday. On this day Catholic parishioners go to their local church and will solemnly celebrate the day by being anointed with palm leaf ash and members of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish on FM 624 are no different.
Lent marks 40 days of fasting and spiritual cleansing leading up to Easter. “The Lenten season is about trying to prepare to be present for the paschal mysteries on Easter,” said Father Bill Marquis, pastor of St. Thomas, “Lent allows us to humble ourselves, be thankful, and allows us to return to God.”
There are some changes to the schedule of mass services at St. Thomas including a noon mass Monday through Friday and an 8:00 P.M. mass on Sundays to accommodate the parishioners who work at night.
