In the second annual USTA Texas NJTL Art Contest, over 200 youth from around the state submitted entries depicting how tennis has made its mark on them. This year’s competition featured 10 different divisions, each competing for the chance to win tickets to the U.S Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston. The full list of winners for each division are: 

10U Boys: Jerald Aplon of Dallas Tennis Association NJTL 10U Girls: Zoee Shepherd of Dallas Tennis Association NJTL 12U Boys: Zachary Vinnola of Dallas Tennis Association NJTL 12U Girls: Sarah Vazquez of San Antonio Tennis Association NJTL 14U Boys: Ethan Doan of San Antonio Tennis Association NJTL 14U Girls: Olivia Kisgen of San Antonio Tennis Association NJTL 16U Boys: Joshua Hernandez of Tennis Success NJTL (Corpus Christi) 16U Girls: Ashley Lucio of Tennis Success NJTL (Corpus Christi) 18U Boys: Jose Reyna of Tennis Success NJTL (Corpus Christi) 18U Girls: Mikayla Hoskins of Tennis Success NJTL (Corpus Christi) The competition was open to all residents of Texas who were under the age of 18 and active in their local NJTL chapter. The NJTL program was established in 1969, with the mission to develop the character of young people through participation in tennis. The theme of this year’s competition was to showcase that mission, by creating a book mark expressing the impact tennis has had on each of the participants’ lives.

 

Each of the winners will be awarded a plaque for their accomplishment and Sarah Vazquez, the 12U Girls Division winner, also won the Clay Court Championship tickets. Sarah will also get the opportunity to do the coin toss for one of the matches on Saturday, April 9 at River Oaks Country Club.
