Robstown Area Development Commission (RADC) held their 20th annual banquet at the Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds last Thursday. The banquet brought together public officials and individuals associated with different businesses in the Robstown area to celebrate the accomplishments intended to raise the quality of life for the residents in the community.

Awards were handed out to Dr. Maria Vidaurri for Educator of the Year, local barber Bence Reyes for small business of the year, and Wells Fargo for Large Business of the year. Family of the late Julio Garcia Jr. accepted an award of special recognition on his behalf for all of the contributions that he made for Robstown in his lifetime.

State Representative Abel Herrero was on hand to honor the anniversary by presenting the RADC with a copy of State of Texas HR 1906 to commemorate the organization's 20th anniversary.

The keynote speaker for the evening was Peter Zingoni, CEO of Spectra Venue Management who manages the Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds. Zingoni noted the pride that comes out of the success of the fairgrounds, “We're proud of our accomplishments at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds. It's great to see individuals come together to promote their community.”

The Outlets of Corpus Christi Bay (OCCB) were also represented at the banquet. OCCB General Manager Cesar Briseno and President Rick Carduner were on hand to give an update on the status on the outlet mall. Carduner was also presented with an award recognizing the efforts to bring the new shopping venue to Robstown. While the opening has been delayed due to weather and obligations to the tenants who wish to open in the spring, Carduner wished to thank the community for their continued support.

The President's Award was given by Past President Elias R. Vasquez to County Commissioner Oscar Ortiz in recognition of his efforts and being a founding member of the RADC. During his acceptance speech, Ortiz asked attendees to recognize everyone in the room who had a birthday in June and asked the Enriques sisters to lead everybody in singing happy birthday. Ortiz also spoke on how many of the award recipients earned their awards by building and working with great teams enabling them to create success for their businesses and organizations.
