CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced the winners of the 2016 Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Texas Challenge, which was held in Corpus Christi.
Sixteen DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Troopers and Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspectors represented the eight different CVE districts throughout the state. In addition, six police officers and sheriff’s deputies with the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) represented several different agencies within Texas.
The categories of competition included, Passenger Vehicle Inspection, Hazardous Materials Inspection, North American Standard Level 1 Inspection and Written Examination.
Trooper Jeremy Usener, of Colorado City, was named Grand Champion; and CMV Inspector Jose Najera, of El Paso, was named Runner-Up for DPS.
In the MCSAP Division, Corporal Rommel Garcia, of the Houston Police Department, was awarded Grand Champion; and Officer Greg Parker, of the Grand Prairie Police Department, was named Runner-Up.
During the 2016 North American Inspectors Championship in Indianapolis Indiana August 8-12, Usener will represent the Texas Highway Patrol - Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and Garcia will represent the Houston Police Department.
