Several families at the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) in Corpus Christi are looking forward to September 1. This is because that Thursday is when they will have the opportunity to meet four-time NBA champion Tony Parker from the San Antonio Spurs. The champion point guard will be the featured speaker at the 2016 Casa de Amor Fundraiser scheduled for later that evening.

Parker called in to the RMHC on Thursday to answer a few questions in anticipation of coming to Corpus Christi in September. “For me, I'm an ambassador for Make A Wish France. I've been the ambassador for ten years now, so that's a way for me to give back to my country,” said Parker, “In the U.S., I do different stuff in the U.S. You know with the Spurs we're very involved in our community. Going to trips or hospitals and some stuff so we can help little kids to put a smile on their face. This year I decided to do the Ronald McDonald House cause I share everything that I spend and hopefully we can raise a lot of money.”

The annual event helps to raise money for the charity organization that provides families with accommodations while their children are undergoing care for a critical illness or injury, and must travel to receive that care. The house has 25 rooms capable of housing up to 100 people. Guests are allowed to stay during the course of their child's treatment while under the care of a physician. According to RMHC Executive Director Michelle Horine, “Once you walk through the doors of the house, it's hard not to fall in love with they do.”

The fourteenth annual Casa de Amor will feature both live and silent auctions before the presentation and a dinner for all attendees. More than 800 people are expected to attend and money raised usually pays operational and other house expenses for a minimum of three months. Aside from the auctions, funds are also raised through ticket and table sales, VIP sponsorships, and donations.
