A traffic stop near Bishop led to money and weapon seizure off U.S. Highway 77 near Bishop Tuesday morning.

A deputy with the Nueces County Constable Precinct 3 pulled over the driver of the vehicle for speeding. The deputy searched the vehicle when he got conflicting stories from the two women about where they were heading.

The deputy located two duct taped bundles of cash under the center console, totaling $82,000. He also found an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle with two fully loaded 30-round clips behind the passenger seat.

Constable Jimmy Rivera told KRIS-TV with recent training, it played a role in this bust.

"We've been sending our deputies to go for more training for interdiction and actually he just returned a few weeks ago from some really good extensive interdiction training so that's training that paid off in this case," Rivera told KRIS-TV.

A 1-year-old child was also in the SUV. Her, mother, the passenger, was released for medical reasons.

The driver, Sonya Hernandez, 40, was arrested for money laundering.

Child Protective Services was notified about the case.
