CORPUS CHRISTI - Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate a two-vehicle crash where an Orange Grove woman died two days later in a Corpus Christi hospital.

On Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6:38 a.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 624, approximately two and half miles west of Corpus Christi in Nueces County, the collision occurred.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck (occupied by the driver and passenger) was traveling east on FM 624, when the driver fell asleep and failed to control her speed and struck a 2013 GMC 3500 pickup truck in the rear of the vehicle (occupied by the driver only), officials said.

The driver of the Ford F150 was identified as Aurora Cantu, 53, who was transported to CHRISTUS Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi and died two days later due to internal injuries.

The passenger of the Ford pickup was transported to Spohn Northwest Hospital in Corpus Christi with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC pickup truck was transported to Spohn Northwest Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers are further investigating the crash at this time.
