The Speech and Debate team traveled to their first competition of the 2016-2017 season held at Carroll High School on Saturday September 10th 2016. For many students this was their first time ever competing at a Speech and Debate tournament.

There were a total of 12 schools present and over 100 competitors! Tuloso-Midway placed 5th overall and many of our students advanced to semifinals, finals, and even placed first. Each student competed in at least 2 of the 12 competitive events offered. Events categories range from drama to debate to speech.

Four students earned points toward a qualification to this year’s Texas Forensic Association state meet. This is known to be the most competitive Speech & Debate state meet in the nation! A competitor must earn 12 points in a single event during the competitive season to qualify, so this is a great start for our TM Warriors.

Students are now practicing hard to prepare for their next meet on September 24 at Harlingen South High School.

The TMMS Speech and Debate Team students range from 7th to 12th grade.
