CORPUS CHRISTI – The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) has partnered with the Downtown Management District (DMD) to support the Food Bank of Corpus Christi in a simple, friendly competition: Who can raise the most cans?
“We could not feed 7,800 individuals each week if it was not for the generosity of our community. The CCRTA and the DMD will help us feed families while having fun collecting food,” said Bea Hanson, Executive Director at the Food Bank of Corpus Christi.
The competition began on Monday, Nov. 7and will continue until Monday, December 12.
“This event is about different organizations coming together to make the community better,” said Kelly Coughlin, Marketing Director at the CCRTA. “We wanted to make this event fun, but really this is a serious issue for people who rely on the Food Bank of Corpus Christi.”
The winner of this competition gets an old-fashioned pizza party on the Green Roof of the Staples Street Center for their hard work and effort.
“We are excited to accept this challenge! The downtown businesses are all very actively involved with community outreach and support organizations, so this kind of event fits right in with the way downtown operates,” said Barbie Baker from the DMD.
Both organizations are encouraging people and businesses to clean out their pantries and donate non-perishable items to the locations at:
The third floor of the Staples St. Center at 602 N. Staples St,
The RTA’s Operations Center at 5658 Bear Lane,
ArtWalk on December 2 in Downtown Corpus Christi,
BridgeWalk on December 4 at Heritage Park,
The DMD office located at 223 N. Chaparral Street, Suite A
