Joseph Mathew Tejeda, 26, has been charged with murder in the death of Breanna Wood and was in court Tuesday morning.

The accused offender is currently in the Nueces County jail on an unrelated charge. Bond has been set at $1 million for the murder charge.

Investigators obtained the murder warrant after extensive interviews with numerous people. Physical and circumstantial evidence has been collected and reviewed. There are no further arrests for this murder anticipated, but the case remains under investigation.

Wood was reported missing in October 2016. After a tip from an inmate, her body was located in a vacant house on Farm to Market Road 1883 off County Road 666, reports said. 

Channel 6 reported that an inmate told police Tejeda confided in him that he had shot Wood in the 800 Block of Hancock Avenue. 

According to police reports, Woods was last seen at the PMI store on the 900 Block of South Tancahua Street, near the 800 Block of Hancock Avenue.

Tejeda was magistrated by a judge and requested a court-appointed attorney.
