An Orange Grove High School teacher was booked in the Jim Wells County Friday afternoon. Derek Yeary, 36, was turned himself in as advised by his attorney and charged with an improper relationship between educator and student.
In December, Yeary was accused of having a relationship with a 17-year-old high school student, according to police officials.
Yeary taught Social Studies at the Orange Grove High School where he met the student, according to officials.
According to Orange Grove Superintendent Lynn Burton, the district is continuing to work with all concerned parties in the investigation in the hopes of concluding the investigation in a reasonably short time.
The extent of the alleged relationship between the teacher and the female student was limited to text messages until recently, but the exact details of the relationship have not been released.
Yeary was placed on administrative leave in December and has not returned to the campus.
He was released from county jail Friday on a $25,000 bond.
