Robstown Independent School District would like to congratulate Josue Villarreal of San Pedro Elementary, Elementary Teacher of the Year and Hilma Hunt of Seale Junior High, Secondary Teacher of the Year.
They were recognized March 9 at the Robstown ISD School Board Meeting. Both educators were honored for excellence in education and have showcased many efforts that have inspired their students, colleagues, and the communities they serve.
Josue Villarreal is a 2nd Grade Bilingual teacher at San Pedro Elementary. He has taught with Robstown ISD his entire career, reaching 10 years of service during the 2016-2017 school year. Mr. Villarreal cites in his teacher of the year application that he chose to be a teacher in the community he grew up in because he wanted to show local youth that if one makes right choices in life and applies themselves, there is opportunity for success. Mr. Villarreal states that when he sees sincere smiles from his students when they learn or master a new concept, that it’s all the reward he needs from his profession.
Hilma Hunt is a 7th and 8th Grade Spanish Teacher at Seale Junior High. Beginning her career in 1976 at Robstown High School as a Reading Teacher, she has been with Robstown ISD for 41 years. Even when she retired in May of 2006, she didn’t go far, she was still tutoring at Ortiz Intermediate. When she returned, she continued to excel in teaching, as she was named Teacher of the Year at Seale Junior High in 2016. Mrs. Hunt attests that watching her students grow and become highly motivated and successful adults, is the ultimate reward for her as a teacher.
