Corpus Christi police officers and firefighters took part in the Tip A Cop and Firefighter Night at Texas Roadhouse on Tuesday.
Officers and firefighters served tables and collected tips, which were donated to Special Olympics Texas at the end of the dinner shift. The child-friendly event included a Corpus Christi Fire Department fire truck, a Corpus Christi Police Department police cruiser, face painting and Andy the Armadillo.
All funds raised by the Corpus Christi Police Department and Corpus Christi Fire Department went to provide SOTX programming for more than 2,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the South Texas area.
Area cops, firefighters and media members also competed against each other in a rib-eating contest.
Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) is a privately funded non-profit organization that changes lives through the power of sport by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities, promoting acceptance for all, and fostering communities of understanding and respect. SOTX provides continuing opportunities for more than 58,300 children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the Lone Star State to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy and friendship.
