Freer - An 18-year-old Freer resident passed away during a one vehicle fatality crash Sunday that occurred six miles north on State Highway 16.
At approximately 6:15 a.m., a 1998 Chevrolet pick-up truck was traveling north on State Highway 16 when Sergio Gabriel Garza, the driver, went off the road, for unknown reasons, went airborne, struck a fence and overturned multiple times in a field, according to Department of Public Safety Sgt. Nathan Brandley.
Garza was ejected due to not wearing his seatbelt. Garza was pronounced dead at the scene.
Garza was a 2017 graduate of Freer High School, according to family and friends.
The case is under investigation. There was a passenger with Garza at the time of the accident.
