Edinburg, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents throughout the Rio Grande Valley arrested several criminals over the weekend.

On Friday morning, agents working at the Falfurrias checkpoint stopped a smuggling attempt of two illegal aliens. During processing, records checks revealed the driver, a legal permanent resident, was previously convicted of capital murder in Hidalgo County and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The following day, Weslaco agents assisted the Progreso Police Department in identifying a person who was in their custody. After a brief interview, it was determined the man was a Mexican national who was illegally present in the United States. Furthermore, the man is a suspected member of the Gulf Cartel.

On Sunday, agents working the Falfurrias checkpoint arrested a Salvadoran national during a failed smuggling attempt. As agents processed the man, it was revealed he is a member of the notoriously deadly Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang.

Hours later, McAllen agents encountered a Salvadoran man attempting to illegally enter the United States near Hidalgo, Texas. Record checks revealed a previous arrest by the Daly City, California, Police Department for continuous sexual abuse of a child. The man received a six year sentence.

Later that evening, agents working near Mission, Texas, apprehended a Mexican national whose record checks revealed a previous arrest and conviction in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for criminal sexual conduct.

All subjects will be processed accordingly.
