Edinburg – U.S. Border Patrol agents working in the Rio Grande Valley rescued seven illegal aliens in two separate incidents.

On Wednesday afternoon, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Riverine Unit heard the screams for help along the Rio Grande. Agents responded and rescued a Mexican national who was found in the river. While speaking with the man, agents observed lacerations on the man’s face. The man claimed he was assaulted by people in Mexico prior to his rescue.

Later that night, the Laredo Police Department contacted the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station regarding a group of lost subjects near Roma, Texas. The dispatchers advised agents that the group consisted of three adults each, travelling with a juvenile child. Agents responded to the area decribed by the caller and located the group of illegal aliens. Agents provided the subjects with basic medical attention and transported them to the Rio Grande City Station.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector currently has multiple campaigns focused on rescues and danger awareness, such as “Operation Big Rig” and “No Se Arriesgue” to combat smuggling and ultimately save lives. Call 911 to report suspicious activity; “They’re humans, not cargo!”
