David Morales, an attorney who was raised in Robstown, was confirmed as a federal judge by the U.S. Senate this week. Morales was born in Edinburgh, but moved to Robstown when he was less than one year old. He attended school in Robstown until eighth grade, when he attended Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi.
Morales is currently a partner at Kelly Hart & Hallman LLP. Morales’ appointment by President Donald Trump came after his seat was vacated by Judge Janis Graham Jack in 2011. Morales was nominated by Trump in 2018, but his seat was left pending at the end of year, during a tumultuous time in the federal government.
Senator Ted Cruz praised Morales in a press release, saying that “(Morales’ wealth of experience, coupled with his dedication to the rule of law and principled professionalism will serve Texans in Corpus Christi and the Southern District well.”
The confirmation came after an extensive review by the bipartisan Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee.
