A late night police chase in Robstown led to an early morning investigation on Farm to Market 1694, nearby County Road 44. Police attempted to pull over a vehicle traveling through Robstown around 10 p.m. last night for yet unknown reasons. The vehicle attempted to evade police and officers called off the chase due to road conditions from recent rains.

Efforts to find the vehicle were resumed this morning when a witness reported seeing people walking up and down FM 1694. The people appeared injured. Police responded to the scene and multiple agencies were soon called in. This effort began around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.

It was soon discovered that the vehicle involved in the chase had veered off the road into a muddy field and crashed into a trench. Agencies including Robstown Police Department, Robstown Fire Department, Corpus Christi Police Department, Annaville Fire Department and the Border Patrol were on hand investigating the active scene. According to an officer on the scene, Halo Flight and Coast Guard helicopters were deployed to transfer injured parties.

Six people were confirmed dead, five were injured and taken to a nearby hospital and three individuals were accounted for. In total, there were 14 people in the vehicle. The scene was still active as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
