ROBSTOWN – Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) has partnered with Texas A&M Forest Service West Texas Nursery to celebrate Texas Arbor Day on Saturday, Nov. 2. In honor of Texas Arbor Day, NEC will be giving away free 2-year seedlings to members who bring their electric bill. The event will take place from 9am – 12pm at the NEC headquarters building located at 14353 Cooperative Ave. in Robstown, TX.
NEC’s annual Arbor Day began in fall 2013 as a day to celebrate the excellent conditions required to plant trees and better support the environment. A properly planted tree can help save our members hundreds of dollars on their electric bill by providing shade in the summer and wind barriers in the winter.
On the day of the event, NEC members can stop by to pick up a free 2-year seedling. Members will be able to choose from a Bur Oak or Bald Cypress seedling tree to take home along with some planting instructions and efficiency tips. Trees will be given out on a first come and first serve basis and will only be given out while supplies last.
At the event, once members have chosen their seedling, they also have the option to meet with local master gardeners from the non-profit volunteer program, Nueces Master Gardeners, Inc., who will be able to further assist with seedling care, watering, and overall maintenance of trees to allow them to grow to their fullest potential to become cost-effective shade to members homes.
NEC’s Arbor Day is in its sixth year running and demonstrates NEC’s commitment to giving back to the community who built us by showing concern for the environment and encouraging our members to help celebrate this important event.
