Several Alice men were arrested Thursday, Oct. 31 by authorities who were investigating a crime that was in connection with the outlaw motorcycle gang known as the Mongols, according to police.


Romeo Trevino, 39, Mark Edward Mandel, 55, Ernesto Benavides, 39, Francisco Jorge Natal O’Conner, 39, Joshua Lee Rivas, 28, Mark Antony Caton, 38, Mark Cadena, 39, Nathan Iruegas, 17, and Nathan Nichols, 43, were picked up during what authorities described as a multi-agency operation.


According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, authorities apprehended the motorcycle gang members and associates on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, a first-degree felony, and robbery, a second-degree felony stemming from an assault and robbery involving a rival outlaw motorcycle gang member.


"Whether they are Calaveras, Mongols or Bandidos, to me, the level of violence is unpredictable," said Alice Police Chief Aniceto "Cheto" Perez.


According to published reports and police, the Mongols are a notorious motorcycle gang in America and members have been found guilty in criminal cases in the nation.


The Corpus Christi Police Department’s Gang Unit spearheaded the multi-agency operation, which included Texas Department of Public Safety, Alice Police Department, U.S. Marshals, U.S. Customs & Border Protection, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.


Police said they are continuing to search for 51-year-old Manuel Hernandez, who is wanted for engaging in organized criminal activity and robbery.
