HALO-Flight and the Coastal Bend Blood Center have partnered- up to provide whole blood on board to every patients flight, as a new service for South Texans.
"The process of program implementation and governance is paramount to our collective success with patients," " stated HALO-Flight Executive Director Tom Klassen.
Hemorrhagic death remains the leading cause of survivable death in trauma and resuscitation cases.
"Research has proven that the number one intervention for patients facing such a fate is whole blood and whole blood as soon as possible," explains HALO-Flight Nurse and Blood Program Coordinator Christal Tressider.
Since the launching of the pre-hospital blood program last summer by HALO-Flight, 29 South Texans have benefited from this life-saving care. The addition of whole blood on board will rocket patient care especially when they find themselves victims of trauma.
To celebrate the advent of this service development, the Coastal Bend Blood Center and HALO-Flight held an event Thursday Jan. 30, and meet with a HALO-Flight patient who was the first pre-hospital blood recipient.
"The Coastal Bend Blood Center is excited to be teaming up with HALO-Flight," stated R. Corey Survant, President and CEO of the Coastal Bend Blood Center. "This strategic partnership is a game changer in our community for trauma care, and we are very proud to be working with HALO-Flight and their Mission of saving more lives throughout the Coastal Bend."
