Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi held an open house and blessing by Bishop Mulvey on Monday, March 2, for their newly innovated "Choice Pantry" formally known as the Food Pantry.

Bishop Mulvey blessed the pantry and said a prayer as the Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi mission to serve the community with grace in knowing, everyone is a child of God and the importance of unity and kindness.

The open house is to celebrate the new Choice Pantry which is a reinvention of the food pantry program. Before, people in need would receive a bag of food prepared by the food pantry and there was not any choice of what the bag contained. The new Choice Pantry will give families the "choice" to shop for the food they like and enjoy eating, so nothing is wasted.

The charity is working closely with Grow Local South Texas (GrowLocal STX), the Coastal Bend Food Bank and HEB. GrowLocal STX will bring fresh produce and host healthy cooking events to help families integrate healthier habits with locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Families interested in the service will need to schedule an appointment for SNAP eligibility and meet with a representative for benefit utilization.

The Choice Pantry at 615 Oliver Court in Corpus Christi is facilitated by the Crisis Assistance and Self Sufficiency Department and can be reached at 361-884-0651or go to www.catholiccharities-cc.org.
