Friends of a local couple recently held a roping event to raise money for the couple's honeymoon.
Samantha Harvey, a 2002 graduate of Tuloso-Midway High School, and J.T. Cobb, a 2002 graduate of Port Aransas High School, are going to be married Saturday in Live Oak County. The couple's two close friends, Cole Matthews and Dwayne Truesdale, put the roping event together. It was held Oct. 26 at the Rob and Bessie Welder Park in Sinton.
Those who placed in the event won a cash prize in addition to a ceremonial award.
First-place winners were Camish Jennings and Tommy Zuniga, while Keet Cyphers and Zuniga came in second. In third place were Chase Wiley and Zuniga.
The bride-to-be said she was grateful for the time put in by the competitors and those who put the event together.
"A roping event requires a lot of volunteers and this couldn't have taken place without all of the help from family and friends," Harvey said. "I'm thankful to everyone who participated and to the (San Patricio County Riding & Roping Club) for donating their time and arena."
The couple will be taking a honeymoon to Colorado to go snowboarding, followed by a trip to South Africa to go hunting.
Samantha is the daughter of Bruce and Randa Harvey of Corpus Christi.
