Jose Martinez, a 2004 graduate of Robstown High School, has recently been selected by the Library of Congress to participate in the Summer 2008 Internship Program for the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
Martinez, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfredo Martinez of Robstown, currently attends Texas A & M University-Kingsville where he is a senior majoring in chemistry.
The internship from May 30 until Aug. 9 requires interns to live in Washington D.C. They will help design and perform experiments to investigate the composition and degradation of objects in cultural heritage collections of the Library of Congress.
This would include manuscripts, film, magnetic tapes and other items to help improve their life expectancy. They will also have the opportunity to work with other scientists using state-of-the art analytical instruments.
