A 45-year old Austin man was killed last week in a head-on collision that occurred on Highway 77 just north of Robstown.
According to Robstown Police Department reports, the accident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. March 30 at the intersection of Highway 77 and County Road 44.
An investigation revealed a Dodge pickup truck towing a utility trailer was traveling northbound on Highway 77 when the vehicle crossed the median into southbound traffic and collided head-on with a GMC Yukon.
The driver of the Yukon, identified as Maurice Thomas Larrea, 45, of Austin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge pickup truck, Sturgis Arnold Robinson, 55, was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Robinson later told investigators he swerved to avoid debris in the roadway and lost control of his vehicle, causing it to enter the southbound lane of traffic, department officials said.
A portion of Highway 77 was shut down for three hours while crews worked to clear the accident scene.
