Arnulfo Rodriguez, a sophomore at Robstown High School, was chosen as an Outstanding Performer at the 2009 Texas State Solo-Ensemble Vocal Solo Contest recently.

Of approximately 22,000 musicians who competed in this contest, only 239 students earned this honor. Arnulfo was awarded a UIL State Champion Medallion for his efforts. To earn this honor, Arnulfo studied and memorized a vocal solo, the Italian song O del mio dolce ardor and earned a Division I-Gold Medal.

Also, Arnulfo's exceptional performance earned him the additional honor of being recognized as an "Outstanding Performer," with UIL awarding him the State Champion Medal.

Arnulfo studies voice with Kelly Balmaceda, a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music who has served as a teaching artist with both the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Boston Lyric Opera.
