School officials with the Tuloso-Midway Independent School District will be welcoming new students and their parents to the new school year today, but a special guest will be joining the annual event for the first time.
Corpus Christi Mayor Henry Garrett will be joining school administrators and other staff members today for the third annual T-M Walk - A Back-to-School Neighborhood Welcome.
"As mayor of Corpus Christi, I look forward to walking side-by-side with (TMISD superintendent Cornelio) Gonzalez to personally reach out to all the T-M parents as we welcome our students back to school," Garrett said. "(TMISD) has a tradition of excellence in education and we can continue that tradition as long as we are all committed to lifelong learning."
School officials and Garrett, who will also be accompanied by outgoing City Manager George "Skip" Noe, will be starting their visits to various neighborhoods within the school district at 5 p.m.
The back-to-school event may be rescheduled if the weather proves to be uncooperative.
