Corpus Christi artist Hector Guerra's artwork will be one of the 23 works featured in a first-of-its-kind mobile Hispanic art tour stopping in Corpus Christi this weekend.

The Sabrosura Art Tour, a partnership between Dr Pepper and Whataburger, will be in Corpus Christi today through Sunday, making stops at five Whataburger restaurants.

Professional, student and amateur artists submitted hundreds of original artwork pieces during the online Dr Pepper Sabrosura Art Contest last fall.

Those entries were culled down to the 23 finalists (the number of flavors in Dr Pepper) by online voters. The themes of all the artwork tie to "sabrosura," which translates to tastiness, deliciousness or scrumptiousness.

To local artist Hector Guerra, sabrosura means sweet and flavorful. Guerra interpreted his inspiration into a Dia De Los Muertos theme, his favorite Hispanic celebration, which will be on display at all five Corpus Christi locations.

"We encourage our Hispanic consumers to express their individuality and zest for life," said Ron Jeans, director of national accounts for the Dr Pepper Snapple Group. "Dr Pepper Snapple Group is excited to partner with Whataburger Restaurants on this opportunity to offer consumers a fulfilling Sabrosura experience through artwork, food and drink."

Over a two-month period, the Sabrosura Art Tour will travel to Whataburger locations in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, Del Rio, Laredo, El Paso, the Rio Grande Valley and Albuquerque, N.M.

At each stop, patrons get to walk through a large inflatable Dr Pepper cup that has been transformed into a mobile art gallery showcasing the 23 winning art pieces.

"It's a great honor to join Dr Pepper in celebrating Hispanic art and culture in a way that gives the artists a new audience and patrons a new appreciation for local talent," said Todd Coerver, Whataburger vice president of marketing and innovation. "It's an important and colorful peek into the kitchens, colors and music that shape Latino artwork."

The Dr Pepper Sabrosura van will also be out to entertain customers with music, interactive games as well as give away coupons, a 23-month calendar featuring all of the artwork (with purchase of a meal) and a chance to win an 18-by-24 inch framed reproduction of the art.

The tour includes stops at 38 Whataburger restaurants and ends in Houston Aug. 24.
