James Conrad Mandel, 60, of Montevallo, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016. He was born to Alfred C. and Connie I. Martinez Mandel on June 10, 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1973.
James was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, and one of the hardest working men in his family. Most recently in Birmingham, Alabama, he was a Regional Vice President at Walter Mortgage Company, where he served more than 25 years.
James enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and most of all his family. He cherished the many friendships he nurtured during his 20-plus years of volunteer coaching little league baseball, often leading his teams to Allstars and achieving Semi-Pro Texas State Champ titles three years in a row.
James was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, "Mama Maggie"; paternal grandfather, William "Papa Willie" Mandel; paternal grandmother, Isaura “Mama Sha” Martinez; and paternal grandfather, Conrado "Papa Lao" Martinez.
Survivors include James’ parents; wife, Carol Knowles Mandel; two sons, James Conrad Mandel, Jr. (Whitney) and Austin Reed Mandel; one daughter, April Payne; grandchildren, Haley, Riley, Bradey, and Charley, Al Mandel, Bobby Mandel (Cristina), Rick Mandel (Carol), Gary Mandel (Dolly); and Mark Mandel (Mari); and a host of nieces and nephews who James loved very much.
Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, and the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in Ridout’s Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Burial at Randall Cemetery, Montevallo.
