Loraine Wyatt Slayton, 91, of Corpus Christi, passed away Dec. 11, 2011.
She was born the only child of Arthur Verner and Esther Lena Schmalsteig Wyatt on Oct. 9, 1920 in Sinton. Slayton grew up in Sodville, where her family donated the property for Sodville Baptist Church.
She was a homemaker, Christian, taught Sunday School at the Sodville Baptist Church, and was a member of Second Baptist Church from 1945 until 1967, when she became a member of Tuloso-Midway Baptist Church until her death. Slayton was a member of the Joyful Singers Choir at Tuloso-Midway Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Hannah.
She is survived by her husband of over 69 years, Homer Slayton, of Corpus Christi; daughters, Sharon Lynn (Seldon) Jennings of Corpus Christi and Debra Jean (Ken) Bull of Lake Jackson; five grandchildren, Jason, Stacy, David, Rachel and Ashlyn; six great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lois Slayton and Lucille Ward; brothers-in-law, Roy and Warren Slayton; and a host of church family and friends.
Visitation was held Dec. 13, 2011 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 14, 2011 at Tuloso-Midway Baptist Church, with Brother John McAllister, Pastor, and her son-in-law, Brother Ken Bull, officiating.
Burial will be in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
