Benilde Martinez Mendez, 93, died Friday, July 4, 2008.
She was born Nov. 17, 1914, to Octaviano and Victoria Mireles Martinez in Shinner, but had resided in Robstown since 1942. She was a homemaker, a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a member of the Guadalupanas, a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was active with other church organizations.
She is survived by her children, Ernesto (Jeanie) Mendez of New Braunfels, Benita (Robert) Hernandez of Pasadena, Maria Guadalupe (Frank) Smith and Andrea (Ramon) Alejandro, both of Robstown, Rosalinda De La Garza of Corpus Christi; one daughter-in-law, Margarita (the late Santiago) Mendez of Robstown; three brothers, Roman Martinez, Mariano Salazar and Juan Salazar, all of Houston; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 6, in the Ramon Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 7 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment followed in Robstown Memorial Park.
