Charles Thomas "Cotton" Gaines, 77, of Robstown died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 at his home.

He was born Dec. 23, 1930, in El Paso to Efford Crittenden Gaines Sr. and Clara Belle Van Dyke Gaines. Gaines was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired chemical supervisor for Celanese Corp. He had lived in Alvin for the past 37 years and recently moved back to Robstown.

He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Sarah Ruth Pack Gaines of Robstown; his son, Larry (Sherrie) Gaines of Robstown; his daughters, Carla Tracey of Rosharon, and Dianna (John) Mitchell of Brussels, Belgium; his grandchildren, Elisabeth (James) Kotzur of Floresville, Joshua (Stephani) Gaines of Robstown, B. J. and Charlie Tracey, both of Alvin, Collin and Travis Mitchell of Brussels, Belgium; great grandchild, Mason Kotzur of Floresville; one great grandson on the way; his sister, Doris Hasten of Robstown; a special friend that was loved as his own, Angel (Joe) Verhey and family of Euless; former son-in-law, Selbert Tracey of Alvin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Al Perry officiating. Burial followed in Robstown Memorial Park.
