Simon Carmen Aguilar, 89, died on Friday, June 12, 2009.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1920 to Teodulo and Margarita Aguilar. He was a lifelong resident of Corpus Christi. He served in World War II as an Army medic. Upon his return, he worked as a farmer and in later years at Mustang Oil and Tools. He enjoyed being surrounded by his extended family. He was known as "Tata Sammy" to several generations of nieces and nephews. He was a Catholic and a lifetime member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He had a passion for baseball. He played on local semi-pro teams in the 1940s and 1950s. He enjoyed watching his nephews play ball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Refugio Aguilar; and two sisters, Guadalupe Aguilar and Antonia Aguilar.
He is survived by two brothers, Juan Aguilar of Corpus Christi, and Esteban (the late Josefina) Aguilar of Banquete; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, in the Ramon Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at St. Peter Prince of the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
