The first season of zone play in the 11-team District 30-5A is being decided Thursday night in Calallen. And while it’s a new district and an entirely new format, the match-up is a renewed of an old rivalry.

The district championship is again being decided by a head-to-head match-up between Calallen and Flour Bluff at 7 p.m. Thursday night in Wildcats Stadium. It’s a game which is being televised by KRIS-TV on its sister station South Texas CW 23. The winner of the contest is the district champ, while the other team settles for the district runner-up position.

The Hornets have won the last two meetings between the two teams. However, this season the two were separated in different zones within 30-5A. Calallen went undefeated in the North Zone with a 5-0 record, while Flour Bluff had the best record in the South Zone.

The Wildcats are 8-1 for the season and the Hornets are 5-4.

Both teams are coming in the game fresh off big wins. Called beat Miller, 54-3, while Flour Bluff blew out Corpus Christi Moody, 42-14.

There are two other interzone games for the remaining two district spots. They include there North’s Ray against the South’s King at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Buc Stadium and the South’s Carroll at the North’s Gregory-Portland at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
