District 30-5A went 3-1 in the first round of the state playoffs.

District champ Calallen and runner-up Flour Bluff were big winners. Corpus Christi King also had a first-round win with ease. However, things didn’t go well for the Carroll Tigers, which lost a 21-14 decision to El Paso Win.

Calallen advanced to the area round of the 5A playoffs by thumping Uvalde, 60-7. Flour Bluff beat San Antonio Southside, 42-6, and King was a 42-21 winner against Floresville.

Elsewhere, the Orange Grove Bulldogs, Bishop Badgers, Freer Buckaroos and Benavides Eagles all bailed out of the postseason Friday night.

Class 2A’s Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco Badgers moved on with a 49-36 win against Weimer.
