TULOSO — Whether they were trying to or not, the Calallen Wildcats made a bold statement in their District 30-5A North Zone opener against neighboring Tuloso-Midway Friday night.

Make no mistake about it, the Wildcats are aiming at another District 30-5A championship and another run at the Class 5A state championship. They played like that Friday by blowing out the Warriors, 78-0. It was the Wildcats’ widest margin of victory this season.

The Wildcats racked up 402 yards of rushing offense and another 159 through the air.

Quarterbacks Colton Duff and Roy Rivers combined to complete seven of 13 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns. They rushed for a combined 108 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

A.J. Brown led the Wildcats in rushing with six carries for 102 yards and a touchdown.

A total of 10 backs ran the ball for Calallen.

The Wildcats were just as overpowering on defense. They held the Warriors to only six first downs and 138 yards of total offense. It was Calallen’s second-straight shutout.

The Wildcats have a crucial North Zone ball game on the road Friday against old rival Gregory-Portland.
