Calallen won a physical game against Brenham in round three of the playoffs on Friday night. A scoreless first quarter led to a subsequently more fast-paced second half and a 42-13 win.
The Cats scored a big touchdown to end the first half, but missed the point after, leaving the Wildcats with a 6-0 lead at the half.
Calallen’s dominant running game led the offense with Jeremiah Erhls, AJ Brown and Shenan Price keeping the ball moving toward the end zone, with quarterback Jarrett Garza throwing the ball into the end zone for the second score of the game and posting some runs of his own.
The score began to open up in the second half, with both of Brenham’s touchdowns coming on long yardage plays. Despite those two touchdowns, Calallen’s defense played tough and made big stops all through the night.
Calallen will face either Port Lavaca-Calhoun or Kerrville Tivy in the next round of the playoffs. The matchup between Calhoun and Tivy will take place on Saturday. No matter the winner of the Calhoun-Tivy game, Calallen will face the victor on Friday night in the Alamodome at 7:30 p.m.
