Calallen Wildcats won their area playoff game beating the Tivy Antlers 53-35 to advance to the third round of the playoffs. With the win the Wildcats evened the all time series versus Tivy at 5-5.
Offensively the Calallen stockpiled a total of 616 yards that included 137 yards passing and 479 yards rushing. Charlie Hill was the leading rusher with 16 carries that went for 190 yards and 1 touchdown. Quarterback Jarret Garza rushed 157 yards and went 7 for 7 passing for 137 yards with 3 total touchdowns. Garza’s favorite target of the night was Grayson Leal who racked up 103 yards on three receptions. Riggs Barret also had 39 yards with two scores. Jeremiah Earls finished the game with 86 yards rushing. Kieschnick kicked in 9 points for the cats.
On the defensive side of the ball Calallen juniors J. Chambliss and B. Karpenski had one sack a piece and were part of a unit that held Tivy to a 15:58 time of possession. Chambliss also had a 64 yard interception.
Coach Phil Danaher gave credit to his offensive lineman and running backs saying “Our line did a great job of blocking. Our running backs ran tough.”
With win 401 in the books Coach Danaher and company will square off against the Brenham Cubs at the San Antonio Alamodome. Brenham made their way to the contest defeating the Alice Coyotes 56-37. Kick off is set for 8 p.m. on Nov 30.
