On March 16, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) issued a press release suspending all UIL sanctioned contests, rehearsals, practices and workouts until March 29.
“We are urging our member schools and their communities to stay vigilant and take every possible precaution to remain healthy,” UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt said. “We understand there is a lot of uncertainty during this unprecedented time. Please know UIL leadership is working diligently to adjust to this rapidly evolving situation and will share updates as soon as possible.”
Affected sports include baseball and softball, which were at the beginning of District play, spring football, soccer, track and field, tennis and the upcoming state power lifting tournament that was scheduled for March 20 in Waco. Several area schools were set to send athletes to compete.
In accordance to the UIL suspensions, all athletic facilities are to remain closed until further notice for both school and non-school activities. This includes open gyms, open facilities and open weight rooms during school closures.
If a school is in session, then normal use of the school athletic period is allowed but not to exceed 60 minutes and are not allowed after school practices or the use of school facilities or equipment.
