AGUA DULCE - The Premont Cowboys chalked up their first win of the season by winning a battle of field position against the Agua Dulce Longhorns.

The yardage led to an early lead and eventually a 34-12 blowout victory in Agua Dulce.

The victory was the Cowboys' first, while the Longhorns remained winless.

Premont finally capitalized on good field position following a short punt by the Longhorns. They took over at the Agua Dulce 45-yard line. The drive initially stalled, but Premont picked up a first down because of an offsides penalty against Agua Dulce.

Carries by Tres Ruiz and Brian Ramirez moved Premont to the 2-yard line and Alex Infante took the ball in from two yards out.

After the Longhorns turned the ball over deep in their own end of the field, the Cowboys wasted little time converted the opportunity into points. Ramirez connected with receiver Seth Cantu for a 32-yard touchdown.

Agua Dulce had some early opportunities, but each one came up short. Their first drive ended when running back Trey Mann was stopped on a fourth down conversion. They regained possession when Chalo Garza recovered a Premont fumble on the very next play, but that drive ended in an interception by Brian Infante.

The Longhorns only points came on a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown by Dakota Deaver and a four-yard scoring run by Trey Mann.

The Cowboys limited the Longhorns to only five first downs and 127 yards of offense.

For the Cowboys, it was their last dress rehearsal before beginning District 16-2A, Div. II play against Hebbronville in two weeks.

Agua Dulce has another tough non-district match-up Friday when they travel to Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco.
