The United League Baseball finally got started, with the first series between ball clubs now over, and the second series under way.

The Edinburg Roadrunners emerged as the only unbeaten club in the first round of play with a 4-0 record, sweeping the Laredo Broncos (0-4).

The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings came out with a 3-1 record, playing the Coastal Bend Thunder (1-3), as did the San Angelo Colts, taking the Amarillo Dillas (1-3) three games to one.

The Roadrunners, who came back from a 7-1 deficit last Sunday to win 14-8, had fans reminding each other of the 2006 season when the team won 17 straight wins at the beginning of the season before taking a loss.

In San Angelo, the defending ULB champions Amarillo Dillas saved getting swept by the Colts on Sunday by taking a 4-1 win. The Colts won the first three games by wide margins.

The WhiteWings won their third game of the young season 5-4, over the Thunder, aided by a three-run home run by Jonathan Poters.

San Angelo's Bryan Frichter leads the hitters with a .571 mark, followed by the Rio Grande Valley's Danny Etkins at .545. Others are Michael Lewis of Coastal Bend, .500; Edinburg's Bryan Smith and Amarillo's Trent Lookwood, each at .462.

Edinburg has the top five players in RBIs.

The second round began Monday and continues through Thursday. It puts the WhiteWings at Amarillo, Edinburg at Coastal Bend and San Angelo at Laredo.

Friday through next Monday (June 19-22), it is Rio Grande Valley at San Angelo; Laredo at Coastal Bend and Edinburg at Coastal Bend.
