A touchdown on a trick play in the second quarter was all the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats would need Friday night to overcome the Banquete Bulldogs, 7-0.
The 49-yard pass play from Sonny Hernnadez to Derrick Boggess was the only score of the game. The extra-point kick by Clay Vandiver was good, and the Bobcats held on for the win.
The Bulldogs sputtered on offense, getting inside the red zone five times and failing to score.
The Banquete defense played tough, holding Skidmore-Tynan to only two first towns in the game. The trick play from the Bobcats was the largest play of the night.
The leading rusher for the Bulldogs was Chisolm Wright, who had four carries for 48 yards. Ben Benavides had 12 carries for 34 yards. D.J. Harris carried three times for the Bulldogs for 21 yards.
Rey David Bazan had two receptions for 38 yards, and A.J. Chapa caught three passes for 27 yards for the Bulldogs.
Rudy Hernandez led the Bobcat rushers with 25 carries for only 26 total yards.
Following the game, Banquete Coach Kevin Hermes said his team failed to take advantage of several opportunities during the game.
"We had our chances and didn't get in," Hermes said. "Now we need to win our next two ballgames and see what happens. Our kids will respond and we will go back to work."
The Bulldogs are now 3-1 in district play. They will play at home this week against the Freer Buckaroos. Game time is 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
