The Corpus Christi Hammerheads led the Odessa Roughnecks by as many as 10 points midway through Saturday night's game, but in the end, they were the ones trailing.

The Roughnecks racked up their first win of the 2009 Indoor Football League season at the Hammerheads' expense Saturday night, 47-43.

Corpus Christi quarterback Michael Bishop turned in his best game of the season, completing 17 of 32 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns. However, his effort on the field was matched by that of Odessa quarterback Dennis Giles, who completed 17 of 31 passes for 194 yards and four touchdowns.

The Hammerheads dropped to 1-4 for the season, while the Roughnecks improved to 1-4. Corpus Christi will now play the first of two road games Saturday in Odessa.

Corpus Christi took an early lead on short rushing touchdowns by Bishop and running back Redford Borel. After the Roughnecks took control of the game in the second quarter, the Hammerheads regained the lead with a five-yard touchdown pass from Bishop to Schuyler Anderson and a 19-yard scoring strike to Nathaniel Dunn. Anderson finished the game as the team's leading receiver with six catches for 56 yards.

Odessa again pulled ahead, and Corpus Christi again chipped away with a touchdown pass from Bishop to Toric Goins and a thrilling 11-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Johnny Anderson.
